Youngest Ever Escape From Alcatraz
We have some crazy and wonderful friends, husband and wife, who are veterans of the Escape from Alcatraz swim. Their eight-year-old son just became the youngest person ever to do the 1.5 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to Aquatic Park, without wetsuit or fins. I've gone in the water at Aquatic Park, just for kicks — I'm still defrosting (the water this time of year is a balmy 55 degrees or so).
